Our History

Janet and Gerry Morrell started Morrell Graphic Communications at 801 South Public Road. It was at this location that their oldest son Jim began apprenticing at five years old.

Morrell Graphic Communications moved to a larger location just up the street, 101 North Public Road. Janet and Gerry’s second son Jeff started his career on Janet’s lap.

Morrell Graphic Communications entered the “digital age” when we purchased our first Macintosh computer, a laser printer and 20MB hard drive for $15,000! Janet and Gerry’s daughter Kristel and Matt were both born in the 80’s and Sharon started working at the shop at the age of 16.

In 1988 we purchased our new building (the Old HiWay Drug Store) and settled into our third location on Public Road, 111 South Public.

In 1989 we purchased our first color copier and a two color Ryobi offset press. Jim finally collected his first paycheck and Jackie started working at the shop.

We received the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award.

Jeff Morrell began working at the shop.

In 1998 we were inducted into the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame. Kristel began working at the shop.

In 1999 we added production digital color with a Xerox 2060 color press.

In the year 2000 Gerry retired from the business to become the full time Fire Chief for the City of Lafayette after being a volunteer for 25 years. Jim and Jackie had their first born, Morgan Morrell.

Matt Morrell started working at the shop.

We outgrew our existing location and purchased the 990 S. Public Road building, tripling the size of our facility.

Digital color got better and faster with the new Xerox iGen4 – digital now rivals the quality of offset!

Janet and Gerry were recognized with the Better Business Award!

Morgan Morrell began working at the shop. The 3rd generation!

We received the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year award!

We expanded into the unit next door and formed a family corporation, making Janet and Gerry’s Kids (Jim, Jeff, Kristel and Matt) the owners. We now have a total of 12,000 square feet for production!

We became solar powered by adding a 106 kW photovoltaic solar system to the roof our building. These solar panels produce approximately 140,000 kW hours of energy per year!

Janet Morrell retired.

In 2022 we expanded our current location once again, gaining even more production space.
